Become proficient in Welding using various procedures on all joint configurations, in all positions, meeting specific standards. Assist in the preparation and assembly of components prior to Welding.

This occupation may involve working at height, and beside or over water. Welders’ work will be regularly assessed to ensure continued quality of welding and overall integrity of the component being welded, as specified in the applicable component design code.

 

Plater

Become proficient in fabricating using various procedures, marking off, accurate dimensional control, cutting using thermal or mechanical process, attain standards to meet company specifications.

This occupation may involve working at height, and beside or over water. Plate welders’ work will be regularly assessed to ensure continued quality of welding and overall integrity of the component being welded, as specified in the applicable component design code.

Become proficient in Pipefitting using various procedures, marking off, accurate dimensional control, cutting using thermal or mechanical process, attain standards to meet company specifications.

The Pipefitter can work in hazardous environments which can include working at height, over water and in confined spaces. The Pipefitter role encompasses the positioning, assembly, fabrication, maintenance, repair and decommissioning of piping systems.

Must develop competency in the use of propulsion machinery, inches, pumps, valves, coolers, cranes and auxiliary systems. Will become proficient in the use of a variety of measuring diagnostic equipment to meet the required specification.

The broad purpose of an Engineering Fitter is to produce complex high-value, low-volume components or assemblies in full or part, using machines, equipment or systems to the required specification. For example, turbines, cranes, gearboxes, production lines, rigs and platforms.

Become a competent member of the Shipwright Department. This role will include; being a part of drydocking and launching ships, carrying out safety work on vessels and repairing lifeboats.

Become a competent member of the Rigging Department. Specialising in the lifting and moving of extremely large/heavy objects and using equipment expressly designed for moving and lifting objects in places where manual handling is not appropriate. You must work as part of a cohesive team.

Overview of Roles

The Successful Apprentices will be actively and enthusiastically engaged in all activities, to ensure that they learn the practical skills, underpinning knowledge and understanding required to qualify as a tradesperson in their specific area.

They will also ensure that they meet health and safety and statutory regulations and procedures throughout their apprenticeship and after completion of the programme. The Apprentices will be able and expected to meet standards using various processes and materials, and support production in preparation and assembly prior to the completion of a job.

Apprentices will clean and prepare, check for discontinuities prior to presentation to inspection process and will conduct all tasks with due regard to health and safety and the correct use of relevant PPE at all times.

  • Ability to complete assignments and other assessment tasks set by mentor, training officer, training provider and HR
  • Ability to follow health and safety rules, procedures, safe working practices to ensure their own safety and that of others

  • GCSE’s at Grades 4 / C  or C and above in English and Maths and two other subjects
  • Show ability to complete the programme of training for a level 3 advanced apprenticeship
  • Able to complete welding codes, ISO 9606, AWS D1.1, ASME IX as required by organisation

Full Responsibilities

  • To be dependable and responsible, (punctual and reliable)
  • Learn and follow all health and safety procedures required to keep themselves and others safe.
  • Familiarise themselves with all equipment; learning how to conduct pre-user checks and report all defects.
  • Learn how to safely use all plant and equipment.
  • Positively commit with mentor, training officers, supervisor and HR to complete all elements of the training programme in a timely manner.
  • Attend full time, block release and/or day release at Engineering College (working diligently to complete, modules, units and elements of theoretical learning and underpinning knowledge in a timely manner.)
  • Following an initial period of ‘Basic Engineering Skills Training’,
  • Successful applicants will be selected for one of the four apprenticeship pathways based on their aptitude in the particular trade area
  • Follow instructions and advice of supervisors; make a positive contribution in the production process.
  • Successfully complete trade and coding qualification tests if required to meet Company needs, classification society requirements and specifications.
  • Conduct themselves in a professional manner in all contacts with course personnel, clients, inspectors, supervisors, maintaining the excellent reputation of the company.
