International Training

We don’t just offer engineering support in the UK — we’re also open to working with companies from around the globe.

Wherever you are in the world, we can provide you with consultation and advice on maritime training that’s backed by more than 25 years of first-hand experience.

This is evidenced by our partnership with the Grand Bahama Shipyard (GBSL). Working in collaboration in GBSL has allowed us to help boost Maritime skills in the Caribbean. Through our consultative approach, we help GBSL achieve their mission of delivering a training programme that enhances the competency of their workforce.

This partnership exemplifies Merseyside’s world-leading maritime expertise. Our region is home to leading names in maritime and construction, many of which we work alongside. The proviso is simple — to train their engineers to meet the industry’s ever-evolving demands.

  • Grand Bahama Shipyard Limited (GBSL) is the Caribbean’s largest ship repair facility.
  • It’s located inside the port of Freeport, 93 nautical miles east of Miami, Florida, and was established in 1999 as part of plans to develop a maritime centre in the region.
  • It has the capability to dock any vessel up to 300 metres long and welcomes over 100 cruise ships, tankers and other commercial vessels every year.

Send your Apprentices to us

In Summer 2024 we hosted 16 Grand Bahama Shipyard apprentices at our state-of-the-art facility for 12 weeks of hands-on training to prepare them for the day to day demands of their shipyard, which is capable of docking and repairing ships up to 300 metres long, welcomes over 100 cruise ships every year and will soon see two brand new super-docks built as part of it’s operations.

Our tutor’s years of combines experience and maritime expertise gave the students the grounding and technical know how needed to meet the standards required at GBSL. We look to train further cohorts of their new apprentices as the demands of their shipyard grow and they take on higher numbers, in line with the training development plan we have designed for them.

A word from our CEO, Terry Weston

“The Engineering College provides apprentices and adult training to the UK’s engineering and construction industries, and we have an extremely strong track record of providing training solutions to the maritime sector. We are keen to capitalise on this track record and expand our services across the global maritime community.

The College’s partnership with the Grand Bahama Shipyard and their students’ visit to our facility are significant, as they mark key milestones in this ambition. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Grand Bahama Shipyard and seeing it evolve further.”
