An end-point assessment (EPA) is an independent assessment that takes place at the end of an apprenticeship. Only once this assessment has been completed can an apprentice become fully certified.
The Engineering College has been granted EPA Awarding Organisation status by Ofqual and so can carry out EPA assessments nationally. Our team can deliver EPAs off-site at our Technical Assessment Centre in Birkenhead or on-site at the employer’s premises.
An EPA evaluates the extent to which an engineering apprentice possesses the knowledge, skills, and behaviours (KSBs) required for their occupation. From gateway to certification, our meticulous, highly experienced assessors provide a positive experience for training providers, employers, and apprentices. The EPAs grade each apprentice against criteria set out in the assessment plan. Our assessment methods are developed from educational standards and assessment plans designed by trade-specific industry trailblazer groups. Furthermore, our assessment materials ensure each apprentice’s KSBs are accurately measured to ensure competence within their chosen field.
To ensure a fair assessment, we match all apprentices to an independent assessor who’s skilled in the relevant area.

“Very happy with my experience. The assessors helped me with certain questions when needed. I felt comfortable doing the discussion aspect. Well organised and very professional.”
