Engineering College supporting Cash for Kids

Every year, The Engineering College host a Christmas Fundraiser in support of a local charity / cause, and this year our team are supporting Cash for Kids Mission Christmas!

Each year, we celebrate the end of term and the start of the Christmas season by thinking of those in need in our local community. Chief Executive Terry Weston commented on the event, “we started running the fundraiser events back two years ago and it’s been a hit. The students and staff get involved and even some local employers and clients of ours. It brings our community together and helps people in the local area.”

In 2016, the Engineering College partnered up with Response Wirral, a Birkenhead based charity that seeks to provide advice and support for young people aged 13-19 years old. They offer a wide range of support, covering drugs and alcohol, mental health, homelessness and / or threatened homelessness.  Many young people who use Response have a number of needs that require a lot of support.

In 2017, the team supported another Merseyside charity, Evolve North West which sets out to support and inform young people of the dangers linked to volatile substance abuse. Evolve North West provide preventative education, early intervention, counselling, family support and  training for professionals in relation to the abuse of former Legal Highs, especially Volatile Substances.

This year, we are supporting the Cash for Kids Mission Christmas campaign to support children and young people across Merseyside at Christmas time. It is estimated that 1 in 3 children and young people in this local area are living in poverty and at this particularly expensive time of year, it is increasingly difficult for parents and carers to give children gifts. The campaign seeks to help those children and young people who are living in poverty, or looked after, disabled or even carers themselves, by giving them something as little as a present at Christmas time.

How we’re helping

We’ll be donning our Christmas jumpers from Friday 14th December and start gathering prizes and cash for the big Festive Fundraiser event on Thursday 20th December. On the day of the event, we will be holding a series of activities from a pub quiz to a darts competition, a raffle and tombola, the whole morning will be packed with games and challenges, with one aim in mind, to raise as much cash as possible!

Last year, with generous donations from clients, students and staff, we raised over £1400.
