Frequently Asked Questions: Remote Learning

Frequently Asked Questions: Remote Learning

If I have been furloughed or am working less hours can I still do my apprenticeship work?

Absolutely! This could be a great opportunity to keep up your professional development and may even help in setting short term goals whilst you are on fewer hours / furlough. Our team is in contact will all learners delivering training on a daily/weekly basis so it is important that you carry on attending the online sessions and doing the work at home during this period.

How will I study?

You should study by:

1) If you are following along with a Canvas Course, read through the notes and lectures published here. If you are not following a Canvas Course and you are just attending online Teams training and looking for some more reading / books, ask your tutor for some reading recommendations.
2) Attend all Teams sessions scheduled by your tutor and complete any work set.

How will I be contacted?

You will be contacted on your college email not your personal email. It is essential that all students routinely check their college emails for updates on work, changes to timetable and important information. Your tutors will organise scheduled classes on Microsoft Teams which you attend like online training sessions, and your tutor may also be using Canvas to deliver training. If your tutor is using Canvas then you can set up notifications on Canvas.
You can also set your email on your phone as a default mail inbox and download the Canvas app from the App Store or Google Play. You will almost certainly need this at some point in 2021.

Where can I find support?

For support with your studies, you have a couple of options:

1) talk to your tutor if you find yourself falling behind with work, needing more / flexible time, need more guidance on a unit, etc.

2) If you don’t feel that your tutor is the right person to support, you can contact the Learner Support Team, who can provide guidance, information and refer you to a network of support agencies. This could be an issue with remote learning that requires a little extra support, or a problem outside of your studies that may be affecting your learning.
