Merseyside – based fabrication specialist Vulcan Metal Fabricators (VMF) has recruited its latest apprentices to join their team from Birkenhead based The Engineering College.

VMF, which has been operating for more than 50 years, specialises in multi-metal fabrication, welding, and site work. The company fabricates bespoke items ranging from handrails, police vehicle gun boxes, to structural steel, dock support items to access ramps at Liverpool Football Club.

The company, which has a long history of recruiting apprentices, chose to partner with The Engineering College due to the fact it specialises in welding and fabrication courses.

Darren Mitchell, Managing Director at VMF, said: “VMF is deeply committed to employing apprentices – in fact the previous and current owners of our company all started out as apprentices.

“We find training our own apprentices works best for the company, as the scope of work undertaken by VMF ranges massively and a large bespoke skillset is required.”

VMF has already employed two apprentices, and their latest recruit, 16 year old Matthew Renshaw,  is now studying at The Engineering College.

Darren said: “The basic skills and understanding of workshop and site environments are taught well at The Engineering College, which means their students transition well from school to being comfortable in our workshop.”
