Six students from Merseyside have embarked on a traineeship programme which will equip them with the skills to launch a career in engineering.
Paul Blair, Elliott Clarkson, Harvey Harris, Ethan Richardson, Jack So and Harry Stewart are the latest trainees to be recruited for the Traineeship programme at The Engineering College in Birkenhead.
The six-month course is a nationally recognised programme available to 16 -18 year olds. The course combines real-life work experience with a curriculum which helps develop skills and knowledge in Maths, English and ITC, whilst furthering a student’s understanding of the engineering sector.
Terry Weston, Chief Executive Officer at The Engineering College said that Traineeships are the life blood of the pre-apprenticeship programme and are vital in preparing students for an apprenticeship in the engineering sector.
Terry Weston said: “The Engineering College Traineeship programme is renowned across the local engineering and construction industry and produces confident, skilled young people who are ready to embark on their apprenticeship programme.
“The six-month curriculum provides young people with the academic, functional and practical experience to make them ready for their place of work. The programme also gives the employers who recruit our former trainees as apprentices the confidence that their apprentice will know their way around a workshop.”
The Engineering College has supported 105 young people through its Traineeship Programme over the last four years, with an average progression rate over the last 3 years of 60% from Traineeships into Apprenticeships.
Matthew Renshaw, Alfie Cooper and Henry Grafton Davies are the latest students from The Engineering College to successfully complete their traineeship and progress to full time apprentices in the engineering sector. The three students have secured apprenticeships at Vulcan Metal, GP Engineering and Abbey Logistics respectively.
Terry Weston said: “The Traineeship programme is an essential mechanism which prepares young people up and down the country with the skills and confidence to enter a career in the industry.
“I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our Trainees every success in their future careers.”
