The Engineering College welcomed Commodore Phil Waterhouse, Naval Commander for Northern England to present our Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Bronze Award.

Earlier this year, the college was awarded bronze status for our commitment to the Armed Forces Community, Reservists and their families.

Commodore Phil met with Terry Weston, Chief Executive Officer, to discuss how the two organisations can work together to provide opportunities for both apprentices and ex-armed forces personnel.

Terry said: “I was delighted to welcome the commodore to our facility – it was a fantastic opportunity to showcase our training centre and the opportunities available for local young people.

“The Engineering College embraces the whole community of engineers and technicians, both civilian and services and aspires to “connect industry and education”, for a better future of our industry We routinely appoint ex services personnel with technical and occasionally administrative backgrounds to work with us, and welcome younger members of the services community to get in touch about taster programmes and other technical training opportunities supporting their advance into engineering.

“All of us here at the college are looking forward to working closely with Phil and his team to enhance our offering to both our apprentices and the wider armed forces community.”
