The Welding Institute’s Liverpool branch has been reinvigorated following a successful meeting at The Engineering College
The Welding Institute has 19 branches around the UK representing different regions and areas, allowing Members to meet up, share knowledge, and gain information about related industries and new developments. With a calendar running between September and June, the branches generally aim to hold at least five meetings in their area per year.
The Liverpool branch met up recently at their new home at The Engineering College in Birkenhead, where TWI compliance verification engineer Ian Hogarth gave a talk on welding processes and procedures, titled ‘Understanding Welding Procedure Requirement to BS EN ISO 15614-1.’
The meeting was a great success with 37 people attending the talk before a question and answer session, which was followed by a further committee meeting to discuss the direction of the Liverpool branch going forward. However, it isn’t just in Liverpool where the Welding Institute branches are making great strides.
Earlier this year, The Engineering College gained accreditation to deliver a number of bespoke TWI approved programmes, and can now deliver:
- Basic Welding Training
- Coded Welding Testing (BS 4872)
- Coded Welding Testing (ASME IX BSEN ISO 9606)
- Coded Welding Training (BS 4872 / ASME IX BSEN ISO 9606)
- Level 2 Certificate in Welding Skills (City & Guilds 3268)
The Engineering College can, in conjunction with The Welding Institute (TWI), deliver:

With a hub in Bristol, the South Western branch includes a number of satellite bases that cover a large area, making the organisation of meetings something of a challenge. Despite this, the South Western branch is now organising a new programme of events to be rolled out across the region.
With progress being made by branches across the UK, the future for the Welding Institute’s Members looks bright.
