Welding Successful Partnerships

Welding successful Partnerships

Since re-branding in October 2016 as The Engineering College (formerly Maritime and Engineering College North West), our commercial welding team have been working tirelessly alongside The Welding Institute (TWI) to set up an accredited commercial welding training and testing centre.

Feedback from a number of companies we work in partnership with has highlighted the lack of accredited welding test centres in the local area, collectively we saw the opportunity to tackle the training gap and not only certify welding but to train and develop potential welders to meet the skills shortage in an ever growing industry.

The Engineering College welding instructors and examiners Kevin Cairns and Nick Meadows have a multitude of experience from industry based welding, to training and development of apprentices which situates them perfectly for the new venture we are embarking on. Both Kevin and Nick are TWI accredited welding instructors and assessors and hold relevant CSWIP qualifications.

Welder training will be delivered according to customer specifications at the College’s Welding Centre in Birkenhead, using a wide range of materials and processes in a variety of positions. Training can be tailored to suit company requirements and to match production requirements and staffing levels. The Commercial Welding and Testing Centre offers welder training and certification to a wide range of standards including: ASME/X, BSEN 287, BS 4872, and other international standards. Welding processes include: Manual Metal Arc (MMA); Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW); Metal Inert/Active Gas (MIG/MAG); Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG).

The current set up of eight top specification welding bays with state of the art extraction systems set over a 200m2 work area, ensures each bay is more than sufficient to carry out any welding activities. We also have up to date classrooms with excellent IT facilities, meaning we are able to undertake a wide variety of training and testing.

We pride ourselves on our ability to work with a wide range of engineering companies not only locally but nationally. We believe that our excellent working relationships derives from our ability to tailor courses to suit not only companies but each individual candidate, this will always have a major part in our ethos as we move forward.

At The Engineering College we operate an open door policy to all existing and potential new clients, so why not get in touch and come and see the facilities and services that we can offer.
