OUR SCHOOLS PROGRAMME (STEAM)

Opening students’ eyes to opportunities in engineering

STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics and is a project-based learning approach that integrates all of these disciplines.

In delivering the STEAM curriculum through our schools programme, we work alongside a number of schools. We open students’ eyes to opportunities in engineering and deliver specialised vocational training to students aged 16 to 17.

Giving Students a taste of Engineering

Our schools programme feeds our apprenticeship pathways and gives students vital, hands-on experience across a range of practical disciplines. It also helps them prepare for the career choices they’ll need to make while still at school.

Students work towards a Level 2 qualification in Engineering over the course of an academic year, learning with us for two days every week. Many of the alumni from our schools programme progress into our advanced apprenticeships.

Students get a taste of different engineering disciplines and develop a broader understanding of:

  • Working in engineering
  • Engineering calculations and principles
  • Health and safety

We welcome schools to come and experience events with us by bringing groups in for engineering-based activities, including ‘meet the employer’ events and open days.

We also recognise the hard work of these students and their commitment to the programme in the annual awards celebration, where students from the schools programme receive the ‘STEAM Learner of the Year’ Award.

Want us to come to your school to inspire your students? Or would you like to bring your students to visit the college?

If so, we encourage you to make an enquiry via the form below.
